What is Aromatherapy oil?
The number of essential oils in aromatherapy numbers to over a hundred and are obtained from varying sources such as fruits, flowers, leaves, herbs and wood by methods such as steam distillation, solvent extraction and cold pressing. The essentail oil of the plant is what gives the plant its vitality and scent and so the oil contains many properties thought to be of great benefit to us also. Essential oils are hydrophobic and contain volatile aroma compounds from the aromatic herb or plant. The use of essential oils goes back to ancient Persian times. Essentail oils can help people in both emotional and physical ways and are often used in massages in massage oils, in facials, as bath oils and in vaporisers.
See Aromatherapy to see in what many different ways the oils can be applied.
